Getting started

Adding a client and choosing a market

What a client record holds, and why the market is fixed when you create it and can never be changed afterwards.

A client is a domain you run reports against. Everything a run produces is stored against one.

What you give it

  • Name and domain
  • Market — a location code and a language
  • Competitor domains, optionally, if you already know them
  • Target keywords, optionally

The market cannot be changed later

This is the one field to get right first time. A client’s market is fixed at creation and is shown on every run.

The reason is that runs across different markets must never be compared. A position in one country and a position in another are different measurements, and putting them on the same line would produce a comparison that looks valid and is not. Fixing the market at creation makes that impossible rather than merely discouraged.

If you genuinely need the same domain in two markets, create it twice.

The client list

Each client shows its last run date, keywords in the top 20, citation count, and an overdue flag when the last run is older than the cadence you set.

That flag is on purpose. A gappy history is honest; a hidden gappy history is not.

Inside a client

The client page splits into tabs, and the split means something:

  • Runs — the run cards. A run card spends money and produces a dated, immutable report. The cost is on the button.
  • Competitors, Tracked, Actions, The lane — things you curate or query. Free, changeable, and they feed the run cards rather than replacing one.
  • History — every run ever, newest first, with type, date, cost and status.
